The Tracing Tea team will be making the journey from Calcutta by tuk-tuk. Also commonly known as autorickshaws, tuk-tuks are three-wheeled vehicles popular in many Asian countries, with its name is derived from the characteristic sound of the engine. An autorickshaw can comfortably accommodate one driver and two passengers, although it can manage three passengers if necessary. In our case this means we will have capacity to move the entire expedition team in three vehicles if one becomes unusable. Developed in the 1940s and 1950s from Piaggio three-wheelers and Vespa scooters, tuk-tuks are to be seen in a number of films, most notably Octopussy. |
