Sophie Ibbotson - Researcher
Sophie
reads Hindi, which she claims is actually a real degree. She first
experenced tuk-tuks in a Columbo rush-hour in 2000, survived the
experience and is now eager to learn to drive one herself, if only to
show the rickshaw wallas in Delhi how it should be done. She will spend
most of the time before the trip researching and drinking tea in North
India and, hopefully, mastering Hindi and Urdu. She has a particular
interest in the Indian Subcontinent and the West and hopes to undertake
research in this area in the future. |
Andrew Daynes - Researcher
Andrew is a third year history student. His travelling career began with a tent, the Lake District, two friends and lots of bacon. However in those halcyon days his world was a small one. All that changed when an errant chemistry teacher saw fit to take him to Peru. Since that fateful trip he has never looked back, visiting every country within the limiting conditions of the British education system. The zenith of his experiences so far came last summer with an expedition to Pakistan, Central Asia and Russia. When not plumbing the depths of our past Andrew spends most of his time playing rugby and rowing. |

Michael Pye - Logistician
Michael is a third year Classicist at Selwyn College, and comes from the Lake District. Contrary to the wide-spread belief that Arts students have too much time on their hands, he enjoys running, gardening, squash, gliding, piano, guitar and is a keen proponent of lengthy tea breaks, even six month ones. Conversant in Chinese and Russian, Michael hopes to make use of previous encounters with red tape in steering the team through the hurdles that await. |
